   Hi Ellen, I'll be watching for your return to writing about your chickies! Today we took pictures of all the chickens in their 'Halloween Costume'. Well, all but the skittish Roo. I was placing the chickens behind the kitchen sink, up against a plant, where each one placidly stayed while I snapped photos. I knew the Roo would not stay without being held, tightly! I've already had him flying around the living room so didn't want a repeat in the kitchen!

   Whew, I have been so busy here I have not checked my Yuku mail....The coop is painted (two colors, I hated the first so repainted). Hardware cloth is now up on the windows...Thanks to me....after the dh promising...Ok, that's one more chicken added....He and the neighbor who is the construction expert will ONCE AGAIN attempt to finish. Every time they set a date the weatherman calls for rain...so now it is Monday, rain or shine.... FINALLY. I need to go today and get pine shavings...and figure out where the water and food are going....
   Did you post any pics of your chicks in their Halloween costumes???? I want to see those!
   I have been babysitting two neighbors' chickens.... I need to take pics they are so cute. And a pic of the two roo boys...They are so cute....and like two peas in a pod...

   Hi Ellen,
   
   Well you may feel "The chicken ate a piece of fruit" isn't exciting to read, but I hung on every single word. I do hope you will return to the thread or begin another one. I'm also eager to see the final feathering of the 2 yellow chickies. They were turning such a beautiful brown in the last photos posted.
   
   That's so nice that your neighborhood has gotten into chickens and the sharing of the joy they bring. I was talking to a customer at work today and she commented on how fascinating it was just to watch them going about their little chicken business.
   
   We are buying a pre-fab building, which should have been here by now but Lowe's dropped the ball and didn't actually order it from the mfr., even though we have already been billed for it. Well, gee whiz, how does that work?
   
   I too changed my mind about where to put the building. It's now going to be in a flatter spot, one that will be easier to bring supplies to. I've laid out 4X4's to mark the 8X10 building and have run colored flagging tape around the trunks of trees to mark off 2 runs. No tree cutting involved.
   
   I don't have a single chicken today, but have had in the past and grew up on a farm where chicks were raised each year.
   
   On Saturday the 17th I'm going to a chicken show in Clanton, AL, about a 2 hour drive from where I live in Ozark, to pick up chickens from Jaynese Knight. A pair of sizzles and 2 silkie pullets.

   I read your comment a few days ago and let (once again) my mail pile up. Boy, I need to unsubscribe from a bunch of stuff.... Plus I have been working feverishly to put together a t shirt quilt for my niece... I still have to make a baby quilt before Christmas.
   Oh I agree with you, chickens are so much fun and so relaxing to watch. I love to sit on the floor and let them climb in my lap for food. One will jump on my back if I am squatting down. Too funny!
   I have some pics of the chicks, now nearly full grown I guess (4 months old) The yellow chicks are cream and brown now. They change so much! Look under Coops, "We have coopage" to find the thread. I will post some more when they get moved, whuich hopefully will be this weekend! Ya!

   Hi Ellen, I'm Georgia and I'm new here on Backyard Chickens as of Oct. 09. I just LOVED your story of Betty and her darling chickies and was disappointed when you stopped writing about their daily lives. I read all this today, Oct 14th.
   
   So how are they all doing now. You probably have your chicken house done and all the babies are now big chickens.
   
   Well, just wanted to tell you how very much I enjoyed your writing.

   Yes, after all the hubub, the summer got really busy. We changed our minds several times on coop location, took down 6 large trees, which I got the pleasure of cleaning up, and then we decided on a different location for the coop! They are pretty much full grown now, unfortunately still renting at my neighbors' barn. We have had so much rain lately, the coop is up, porch and run not done yet.. I have a roost up and need to finish the interior. Painted the outside, hate the color...
   We ended up with 5 boys and 4 girls, gave away 1 boy to my "chicken landlord" and 2 other boys to a neighbor who has a large farm. I kept one boy, who was always the first one to come to me. He had an eye infection for several weeks, and I was afraid he would be blind but he's good now. I had to chase him down and put antibiotic ointment on his eye every day.
   My chicken landlord got 2 hens for her daughter, one died, then the neighbor boy behind her got 2 Ancona hens and 1 roo, then another RIR roo so we are a chicken neighborhood. We all visit everyone's chickens every day.
   It is so much fun to watch the dynamic between them. I need to update on BYC . I kind of quit since just saying my roo ate apple out of my hand is not so exciting. there are so many nice people here and so much good info. you will love it.
   So do you have chickens?
